The First December Swell, John John Florence New Movie, the absolute absurdity of Donald Trump, and Bowe Bergdahl

I don't know, it's still too warm.
Doesn't really feel like December. But, I'll take it. Mostly because I'm pretty sure that winter will eventually come, and when he does...ugh. So, maybe I'm one of the few who likes the mild weather. Those of you who ride, well you'll be getting your fix of snow soon enough. It's coming. Just hang on. Meanwhile enjoy the mild seacoast weather, and the never ending parade of swells. Like this below.

I shot this yesterday morning. Just wearing a long sleeve shirt. No gloves. Just standing on the sand, with a warm December sun in my face. Watching the boys take turns on the multiple peaks.

This was 3 days ago. After the fog burned off. Casey Lockwood fresh back from a fresh water fly fishing session with a handful of surfers, paddled out and hooked into a handful of warm December waves.

It's almost like Spring out there. Seriously, these are Spring like days we are experiencing.
Leave-less trees, and spring air temps. We can almost forget what's happening in our country and beyond. Almost.

OK you all NEED to see John John Florence's new movie a VIEW FROM A BLUE MOON. This movie is by far the BEST movie of the last decade. I was completely blown away by it. From the opening underwater shots to the last shot. Just an incredible feast for bot
h the eyes and ears. It is a MUST SEE.

TRUST ME. See this movie. GET IT and WATCH IT.

Don't see this guy below. He's poison. TRUST ME.

Let's be honest here. Is this guy for real? Good lord, he is almost beginning to actually concern me. It's one thing for this buffoon to say the things he says, it's quite another when people agree with him.

This is scary. Who are these people? You'd be surprised. I have friends who I have respected over the years, tell me he's the one. What? Are we talking about the same person? The DONNIE? Those friends are now being reassessed. I have to give them a second look and decide whether or not I want to associate myself with them.

Donald "THE EGOMANIAC" Trump will destroy us all.

Speaking of bad people This clown is back in the news. Sgt Bowe Bergdahl gave his first interview with "Serial" and spouted off about he wanted to be a "Super Soldier" much like a Jason Bourne character. Prior to this nutty interview, he claimed he wanted to report on his seniors. The problem that most of his platoon have with his statements is, they were scheduled to go back to the BASE CAMP the very next day. A base camp that was chock full of officers and chaplains where he could of said whatever he needed to say.

The problems that I have with Bowe is he was promoted from PFC to SGT during his captivity. And of course the well documented reports of SIX American Soldiers losing their lives directly or indirectly because this fool walked off his post. A very close friend of mine was there. He participated in the search for this traitor/coward. .

These are the faces we should be talking about. Not Bergdahl's. And look, I admit, I did not Vote for Obama and have not agreed with most of his policies and actions. But his stance on this and what he did as far as the trade of prisoners? He too, should be held accountable, for releasing some of the most evil SOB's over there.

A close family member of ours captured one of these evil bastards and told us. That he was "every bit as evil as he looks." Turns out he was. Sorry Mr President, you really messed up on this one.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances

Yes I'm still on the Bergdahl train. I saw this parody from Mad Magazine and thought it was brilliant. I've been a fan of Mad since I was a kid. So of course I have to post this, because I love you all so much, that to not share this, would not be of my character of sharing and giving. That and the fact that I am not the biggest OB fan on the planet. So having said that, enjoy my friends.

This would of been a dream job for me. Working for MAD.

Ok I'm not quite done yet. Sorry, I went off on a bit of a tangent here. It's just that this story, of all the stories in the last year, really hit me hard. Mostly because of our family involvement.

The scene with Obama and his parents alone caused my stomach to churn. Turns out that Barack and Bowe's daddy went to high school together in Hawaii. Who gives a shit about this? Not me. If this is the reason why the president did what he did, he should (again) be held accountable. It's just pathetic.

"Hey Barry, remember when we got caught smoking in the boys room? Man that was funny." Puhleeze.

Now wait a minute. Am I seeing what I think I'm seeing? Ha. Yea, I could not help myself. The devilish photoshop wizard that lives in my brain could not help himself this morning. Like the one below. Which really isn't that funny, because KSM and the Taliban sleep in the same bed.

Please my friends, enjoy the weekly humiliation of the master mind behind the September 11th, 2001 attacks. The man who was behind the killing of 3,000 innocent civilians. The number two big dog of Al Qeada. Khalid Sheik Mohammed.

* Note to self, must pick up a case of 7.62 rounds at Home Depot.

*OK The Patriots Play The Texans tonight. We MUST win. Denver and Cincinnati must lose. Go Patriots. Go Steelers! Go Raiders!

*Happy Birthday Donna Baldarssari December 13th, 2015

Please send positive thoughts to surf photographer Andrew Rebeiro and my dear friend Greg Brooks. Please add Mike Keefe to your list. Mike's a local surfer who has been surfing these parts for decades. Also say a prayer for my good friend Robert Gerard. And please continue to pray for local Hampton surfers Terry Morrison and Rick Fiorentini and their families. Please pray for Dave O'Connor. A good man, a great mentor to so many kids, and a wonderful school principal.
*I'm adding a close dear friend of mine. Marine SSGT George Masten. A combat Marine who served in Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the purple heart for wounds received in Vietnam in 1967. George is battling cancer. PLEASE say a prayer for him.

Today- Return To Never Never land. December 7th, 2015.
Photos and Story by The PHANTOM

People out here on the West Coast have been pontificating favorably about this ‘El Nino’ weather phenomena for so long..........that we half wondered if it was ever going to actually get here? Forecast charts finally started showing some real potential slated for this last Monday, so we loaded up my buddy’s boat and drove it deep up into Northern California to a remote fishing village, and prepared to launch pre-dawn to go find some waves that we’d only heard about via the Redwood Wireless...Would this indeed be California’s ‘kickoff’...?

Arriving off a remote section of coast, we found just a few other takers and the reefs exploding in full flower.........yes, El Nino had arrived. We spent the rest of what turned out to be one glorious day surfing a few different spots, enjoying a nice lunch onboard, and plenty of speculative analysis chitty chat as we drove around the small area and explored what this little isolated pocket in the coast had to offer. Few things in surfing for me equal this kind of satisfying adventure, and it’s nice when all the tumblers begin to click and fall together, and then BAM, the safe swings open and everyone on the boat feels like an instant millionaire.

Ralph, thought you’d enjoy the photos of the experience.

 Regards,

The Phantom

"View From A Blue Moon" Trailer from John John Florence on Vimeo.

See the sport of surfing as it’s never been captured before in John Florence and Blake Vincent Kueny’s second signature release, in association with award-winning film studio, Brain Farm. The first surf film shot entirely in 4K, View From a Blue Moon follows the world’s most dynamic surfer John Florence and his closest friends from his home on the North Shore of Oahu to his favorite surfing destinations around the globe. From the dreamy blue perfection of the South Pacific to the darkest uncharted waters of Africa (and everywhere in between), Florence faces a broad spectrum of emotions as he continues to seal his legacy as one of the most gifted surfers ever. And while the young Hawaiian is pulled in increasingly different directions, there is no form of pressure that will keep him from his ultimate goal — to redefine what is possible in the ocean.

MATTERAS Thanksgiving Week 2015 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

The week of Thanksgiving 2015 was one of those swells that kept "giving back" to all the local surfers.
The color of the water on the last day, and the amazing pinkish purple skies on the 20th, were just beautiful.
I'm very impressed at the way the young men and women have been surfing as of late. I've been around the block
a few times and think I have a handle on the who, what, and where around these parts. My only regret for this clip
is I didn't shoot from the water. But then again, I am nursing a few broken bones. But I'll get back out there. Especially
if I get to the West Coast and the tropics this winter. Until then, I'll be shooting down the street. Music is by Buckethead buckethead.com and Jimi Hendrix jimihendrix.com

PATRICIA October 29-30-2015 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

HURRICANE JOAQUIN

Hurricane Joaquin swept up the eastern Seaboard the first week of October, and gave every surfer from Florida to Nova Scotia some fun sized waves. And...the water temps were amazingly warm. So those of us who call New Hampshire our home, were treated with the same menu. Fun, head high, warm, and hollow surf. The boys and girls were all over this Joaquin swell, like flies on rotting seaweed. The buzz was hi-speed connections. Cell phones, text messaging, IM's, PM's, tweets, and whatever else we use.

The local crew I was with had more than their share. Kody Grondin, Weston Rogers, James Morse, Mike Stanek, Kyle Linseman, Max Fatello, Carter Walsh, Shane Forsley, and a shitload more. The music is by QWILL and Jimi. Check out QWILL at qwillmusic.com Thanks to all the surfers for making this a fun edit. See ya on the next one. Ralph
